Hi there, my name is Kayla.  My dog, Maya, passed on February 13th, 2026.  She was and is my soul dog.  She's the reason this space exists.  Pet grief isn't something people talk about enough, so I wanted to create this platform to share my letters to Maya and let you do the same for your beloved pets.  

Losing Maya was one of the hardest experiences I've gone through, and if you know me personally, that says a lot.  Our pets aren't just animals - they are extensions of us.  The bond shared between humans and animals is not something you can easily put into words.

Along with this site, I've created a nonprofit, Steps for Paws, where donations raised will go towards emergency funds at various animal hospitals and rescues.  No animal should suffer, and no owner should have to make the decision to say goodbye too soon due to the lack of finances available.

The pets we've lost want us to keep living, even if they aren't physically by our sides.  We're all on this journey together, so let's keep living the best way we know how.
